A crucial meeting took place at Archbishop’s House in Lahore which brought together prominent Christian leaders in Pakistan to discuss the current challenges faced by the community. Archbishop Khalid Rehmat, Archbishop of Lahore, is leading the gathering, alongside Archbishop Azad Marshall of the Church of Pakistan, Fr James Channan OP, Director of the Peace Center in Lahore, and Mr Samuel Payara, Chairman of the International Minorities Rights Foundation (IMRF).The meeting aimed to address pressing issues affecting Christians in Pakistan, including forced conversions and marriages of minor Christian girls, such as Maria Shahbaz who was only 12 years and 9 months was married to a 30 years old Muslim man called Sheryar. Archbishop Khalid Rehmat, who recently took office as the Archbishop of Lahore, has emphasized the need for unity and solidarity in addressing these challenges.The Christian community in Pakistan has been facing escalating violence, persecution, and marginalization, with incidents of forced conversions, especially of minor girls . The leaders are expected to discuss ways to promote interfaith dialogue, protect minority rights, and advocate for policy changes to address these issues.The meeting highlights the commitment of Pakistan’s Christian leaders to work together in addressing the community’s pressing concerns and promoting a more inclusive and tolerant society.
