PIPS landmark seminar on working of Parliament at GCU Faisalabad with 190 faculty members & students

The Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) conducted a day-long academic session on the Constitution, the working of Parliament, and the legislative process at Allama Iqbal Hall, GCU Faisalabad, on 24th November 2025. Over 190 participants including 12 faculty members and 178 students from the Departments of Political Sciences and International Relations attended, engaging actively to enhance their understanding of democratic governance and parliamentary functions.

The session was moderated by Mr. Adnan, Assistant Professor, who guided the program flow and invited Professor Dr. Muhammad Asim Mehmood, Dean of Arts and Social Sciences, for the welcome remarks. Dr. Mehmood emphasized the importance of practical exposure, suggesting that PIPS and assemblies offer internships to provide students firsthand experience of parliamentary processes.

Mr. Muhammad Rashid Mafzool Zaka, Director General (Research), PIPS, conducted an interactive 2 hour session comprising of overview of Parliament’s functioning, oversight mechanisms, and committees, followed by Mr. Abdul Nabi Solangi, Deputy Director (Legislation), who explained the legislative process. Team PIPS also conducted a 45 minute interactive Q&A by faculty members and students to clarify doubts and deepen their knowledge. Mian Muhammad Azhar, HoD Political Science recognized PIPS as a centre of excellence that has always led from front in mentoring youth to encourage their essential participation.

Head of IR Deptt, Dr Ghulam Mustafa was the host of the day at GCUF who reiterated the need for bridging between the Legislators and the Public especially youth so that academia and Parliament work in unison for policy review and legislative business for development of people centric agenda, He eulogized the National Assembly and PIPS role in supporting discipline of parliamentary studies in Pakistan.

The session concluded with faculty votes of thanks, exchange of Mementos between PIPS and GCU, and group photographs, celebrating learning, collaboration, and parliamentary awareness; as well as slogan of unity of diversity Pakistan Zindabad!
