Attack on Dr. Mahnoor Nasir – When will our daughters be safe?

Yousaf Adnan

The heartbreaking news from Quetta’s Sandeman Civil Hospital has shaken every sensitive heart and left us all questioning our society A young postgraduate lady doctor, who spent her days and nights in the sacred profession of saving lives, was brutally attacked and severely injured by a hospital employee. This is not just violence against one individual. This is an attack on education, on hard work, on dignity, and on the independence of every woman who dares to dream and serve.A hospital is meant to be a sanctuary. It is where the sick find healing, where families place their trust, and where doctors like Dr. Mahnoor work as messiahs. When that very place becomes unsafe during duty hours, it exposes a deep failure in our collective conscience and in our systems of protection.Yes, the alleged perpetrator has met his fate. But justice does not end there. The bitter questions he left behind still haunt us:

  1. Why do our daughters have to fear the workplace that should protect them most?
  2. What value do we place on women who sacrifice everything to serve humanity?
  3. How long will silence and inaction be our response to such crimes?

This tragedy forces us to face several dark realities of our society that can no longer be ignored or buried under excuses. Every time a woman breaks through social and economic barriers to become a doctor, she carries the hopes of her family and her community. She heals us, she strengthens us, she represents progress. But in return, what are we giving her?Are we giving her safety? Respect? Security?Or are we leaving her vulnerable in the very halls where she saves lives?Dr. Mahnoor’s pain is every daughter’s pain. Every mother’s fear. Every sister’s warning. If we do not speak up now, if we do not demand accountability now, then we are failing the next Mahnoor too.It is time to move beyond hashtags and hollow statements. It is time for real protection, real policies, and real respect for women in every field, especially in healthcare
