Workshop regarding Operationalising the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act, 2022 through a Gender Lens organized by National Commission on Status of Women.

Capacity building workshop on “Operationalising the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act, 2022 through a Gender Lens” was conducted by Justice Project Pakistan (JPP) for the National Commission on the Status of Women, Islamabad. The workshop aimed to strengthen understanding of the legal and institutional framework on torture prevention and custodial deaths, with a particular focus on the protection of #women and gender minorities in detention. The session equipped participants with practical tools to identify gender-specific risk indicators and to integrate the Torture Act’s safeguards into monitoring, reporting, and complaint-handling mechanisms.NCSW staff members participated in an engaging and interactive manner, sharing experiences and insights from their fieldwork and demonstrating a strong commitment to strengthening gender-responsive oversight.Secretary NCSW, Ms. Humaira Zia Mufti, presided over the workshop and appreciated JPP’s initiative, emphasizing that collaboration between NCSW and justice sector organisations such as JPP is essential for advancing gender-sensitive practices and ensuring that legal protections lead to real improvements in the lives of women in detention.NCSW extends its sincere appreciation to Justice Project Pakistan for this meaningful initiative and acknowledges the valuable contributions of Mr. Haris Zaki and Ms. Ayesha Gardezi for their insightful and engaging facilitation.Following this successful collaboration, NCSW and JPP are committed to pursuing joint initiatives to strengthen gender justice and human rights in Pakistan.
