On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Minority Forum Pakistan (MFP) raises serious concern over the continued incidents of forced religious conversions and forced marriages of minority girls in Pakistan, calling it a grave violation of human rights.According to various reports, every year a significant number of minority girls—most of them under the age of 18—become victims of abduction, forced conversion, and forced marriage. These incidents not only violate fundamental human rights but also undermine the constitutional guarantees of religious freedom and equality.Minority Forum Pakistan urges the Government of Pakistan and relevant state institutions to take urgent legislative and policy measures to prevent such violations and ensure effective protection for minority girls and women.
Key Demands
Immediate registration of FIRs and transparent investigations in all cases of forced religious conversion and forced marriage.
Legal prohibition of religious conversion and marriage of individuals below 18 years of age.
Declaration of forced religious conversion as a punishable criminal offense with strict penalties.
Provision of safe shelters and a secure environment where victims can record their statements freely before courts.
Fast-track judicial proceedings to ensure timely and transparent justice.
Government-led awareness campaigns promoting religious freedom, tolerance, and protection of minority rights.
Minority Forum Pakistan emphasizes that these demands are consistent with Articles 20 and 25 of the Constitution of Pakistan, which guarantee religious freedom and equal rights for all citizens.MFP calls upon the government, civil society, religious leaders, and the media to work collectively to protect minority women and girls and to uphold justice, equality, and human dignity in Pakistan
